Day Twenty Seven…tired legs!

The training program I’m following puts a big emphasis on running on tired legs, and today’s run definitely put that to the test! A half marathon was on the agenda- the longest distance I’ve tackled in over five years. I was already feeling pretty apprehensive, and having to run it late in the day didn’t help.

Things started off well, despite my legs feeling sore for most of the run. Everything held together until around mile 10, but then the wheels started to come off. By mile 12, I was completely out of energy, and my legs were shot. I had no choice but to finish the route with a run-walk strategy.

Looking back, there were a few reasons things went south. Standing from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. definitely didn’t help, but the biggest issue was fuelling- or lack of it. I simply didn’t have enough energy in the tank to keep going. To make matters worse, I’d planned to bring a snack but forgot it because I was rushing out later than planned.

Still, I’m proud to have finished the run, even if it didn’t go as smoothly as I’d hoped. This was a valuable lesson in the importance of proper preparation, especially when it comes to fuelling for longer runs. Next time, I’ll make sure to have a better plan in place!

Half marathon (13.1miles/21.1km) in 2:21:35.

“Can we stop for a minute? I’m sick of this crap. My legs are getting tired.”
